Sunlight Plant your Holly in an area with full to partial sun - at least 4 hours of sunlight daily.
Watering Water weekly, or more often in extreme heat. Water when the soil is dry 2-3 inches down.

Winter Red Winterberry Holly Shrub Pollination
This holly is a female-only cultivar that requires the presence of a male holly in the same area in order to produce berries.
Try the Apollo or the Southern Gentleman Winterberry as a compainion to your Winter Red.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Choose a location where your Winter Red will receive full sun (6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day) and well-drained soil. If you’re in an area where hot, dry summers are common, provide your plant with partial shade in the afternoon.
Dig a hole that’s as deep as the root ball and twice the width. Amend the soil with acid-rich compost made from organic matter. Carefully remove the plant from its container and place it in the hole. Fill the hole surrounding the roots with soil, tamping down firmly. Water your plant to help remove air pockets from the soil.
2. Watering: Water your Winterberry Holly regularly after planted, ensuring the soil is moist to a depth 2 inches down. Once the plant is established, it will be somewhat drought tolerant but will produce a larger amount of flowers and berries if watered regularly.
3. Fertilizing: Winter Reds do not typically need to be fertilized unless they’re growing more slowly than normal. If this is the case, apply 10-10-10 fertilizer in spring around the base of the plant. Be sure to follow the application instructions on the label for optimum performance.
4. Pruning: Prune your Winterberry in early spring to remove any dead or diseased branches, or branches that are criss-crossing and rubbing together. Make your cuts at a 45-degree angle, ensuring the clipping tools are sterilized with alcohol.

A very fast grower

The shrub was very healthy when it arrived. Because of our winter weather here in NW PA, we had to wait almost two weeks to plant the shrub,along with other plants. It appears to be thriving and we can't wait to see how it looks come next winter.

Very easy ordering on line and super fast delivery. The packaging was great and we had them dug in within a week. They are leafing out beautifully so I am excited for next year when they should berry up. The 3 gallon size is perfect for the back of my garden. I’m always looking for winter interest in zone 8/9 . If I need more plants, I will certainly look to Fast growing trees.

I suppose I did not read the description adequately. I was expecting a more traditional evergreen holly. That said I am sure once I plant it and it leaf’s out I will be pleased. However, I did not realize beforehand that I will also need to purchase a different variety for this holly to have those beautiful clusters of red berries, the reason I was attracted to this shrub. Had I been advised in advance I would have ordered it at the same time. Now that companion shrub is out of stock. I will have to wait for the Apollo (I think that was the name of it) to be in inventory before I can order it.
