Magnificent Purples for the Entire Year!
The Royalty Crabapple is showy all year long. Having this tree in your yard will add brilliant purples to every single season. Treat your guests to royalty and plant several along your driveway. Your landscape will feel like a kingdom with brilliant violent hues.
You'll get purple in every season. The spring delivers rich purple leaves to the Royalty Crabapple. A plethora of dark red flowers bloom from the tree and the vibrant colors never fade. In the summer, the leaves develop a green underside, but never lose their rich purple color. In the fall, the leaves turn to scarlet, but sweet little purple-red berries adorn the branches. You'll never tire of the variety of rich colors in your landscape. From plum purple to mahogany and violet, your yard will flourish with royal colors.
Even in winter, this tree still brings beauty to your yard. The small, sweet berries persist into winter. So, as the first frost hits your region and your landscape becomes bare, the Royalty Crabapple still manages to stand out and add visual interest. Your landscape will benefit from the stark contrast of white snow against the purple and red colors that this tree brings to early winter.
Enhance the entire atmosphere of your yard. The mahogany flowers that bloom in spring not only add visual beauty, but they smell amazing. The flowers of the Royalty Crabapple have a sweet, light fragrance that you'll adore. Imagine how delightful your landscape will look and smell with the addition of this tree.
The Royalty is a no-fuss crabapple tree. There are so many varieties of the Crabapple, over 800 in fact, but some are more finicky than others. Lucky for you, the Royalty Crabapple is one of the easiest to maintain. It only grows to 15' and its uniform, compact habit makes this tree very manageable. You won’t need to worry about excessive pruning or fuss with this tree.
Birds love the Crabapple berries. An array of wildlife loves the berries that the Royalty Crabapple produces. Woodpeckers, finches, mocking birds and so many more enjoy the cherry like fruit. Your family will enjoy watching the variety of birds that flock to this tree in summer, fall and winter. The huge variety of birds will add even more visual interest and color to your yard!
You'll get to enjoy the berries too! The berries from the Royalty Crabapple are completely edible. You can use them to make the nostalgic and sweet crabapple jelly that your mom used to make. It's a wonderful winter treat and just one more delight this tree will bring to your life.
The Royalty Crabapple is an easy choice. You want to add beauty and warmth to your landscape and the Royalty Crabapple is the perfect tree to make that happen. Adding several to your yard can make a luxurious and inviting statement. Don't hesitate to improve your landscape with this stunning tree.
Pollination Info
Royalty Crabapple Tree Pollination
Royalty Crabapple Trees are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Royalty Crabapple Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop.
Planting & Care
Planting Instructions: The Royalty Crabapple will perform best if you plant it in well-drained soil that is mildly acidic. Incorporating 2-3 inches of compost in the soil will help water and oxygen to penetrate more evenly and greatly improve the performance of your Royalty. Place in a spot in your yard that receives full, unfiltered sun.
Watering: As soon as you plant your tree, saturate it with water. If you live in a hot or dry area, water your Royalty twice a week. Other climates can water once a week, achieving 1 inch of water each week. The Royalty performs best if water is added slowly and deeply with a drip irrigation system.
Fertilization: Add a 5-5-5 fertilizer in early spring each year to get the best performance from your tree.
Pruning: The best time to prune your Royalty is at the end of spring before the summer buds arrive. You can prune off any dead or diseased branches, cross branches or crowded areas that prevent good airflow.
Pests: Check your tree frequently for any mites or aphids. A strong stream of water will get rid of these pests. Keeping your tree well maintained will help prevent against borers. A heavy sap flow can drown them, so be sure to properly care for your tree.
Disease: If you see any signs of disease on your crabapple, including leaves that fall too early or have spots, blisters or browned edges, you should treat your tree promptly. Avoiding doing so can greatly shorten the life of your tree. Sterile pruning and a fungicide treatment are the best measures to stop disease before it takes over the tree.
