Resilient, Cold-Hardy, Classic Elm
Why Prairie Expedition® Elm Trees
The Prairie Expedition ® Elm Tree, also known as the Lewis and Clark Elm, is an excellent, cold-hardy tree! Its resistance to Dutch Elm Disease makes it a sturdy and tough choice for planting.
Developed from a parent American Elm that was the lone survivor of Dutch Elm, this tree is guaranteed to be long-lasting and enjoyed for years to come. Plus, it’s also tolerant of most soil types, making this a relatively easy tree to care for.
With its classic cathedral, umbrella form, the lovely shape of this tree will transform any space! You can even spot some small, green flowers amongst the green leaves in spring. In fall, the leaves change to a stunning yellow.
If you’re hoping to add some greenery to a park, boulevard, or other open space where larger trees are desired, the Prairie Expedition® Elm is very tolerant of urban pollution! Plus, this tree is adaptable to most weather, including dry conditions and even some standing water. With proper care, it can live to be 100 years or older!
If you’re eager to add a resilient shade tree to your space, order the Prairie Expedition® Elm Tree today!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Place your elm in an area where it can receive full sunlight (between 6-8 hours per day) in well-drained soil. Since it has a high canopy of foliage that sits well above the ground, it should not be planted underneath power lines.
2. Watering: Though it’s adaptable to both wet and dry sites, this tree prefers rich, moist soil.
3. Pruning: This tree is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. As it matures, the lower branches of this tree can be removed to support unobstructed human traffic underneath by adding height to the canopy.

Looks Healthy
The tree came fast and very well packaged. I knowing it was a tree and knowing the root ball would be heavier, I knew which way to handle the package. I wish the packaging would list "This end up". For the truckers that don't know what's in the box. A very hardy, healthy looking tree. The buds look as if they are ready but, this is fall. Come on spring.
Arrived in great condition and much bigger than I expected Couldn't be happier with this tree
Great trees
So ordered three Prairie Elms. All arrived alive and ready to plant. Too early to tell how they will go long term but so far so good.
