Easy to Grow Flowering Tree with Dark Pink Blooms

Raise your neighbor's curiosity with this unique, colorful tree. Intense red flower buds bloom into a cloud of bright purple-pink flowers. New leaves appear early in the season, and are a rich coppery red.

The Profusion Crabapple is extremely hardy, resisting disease and pests.

The tree does well out in the country as well as in urban areas. This lovely Crabapple is not bothered by pollution or salt, and is unattractive to browsing deer.

Profusion is not picky about soil types, making it easy to grow in any location.

Profusion is an excellent flowering tree for small yards where a designer touch is desired. The rounded, somewhat weeping tree only grows to 15-20 feet tall with a broad canopy that stretches no wider than 25 feet.

You will love your landscape with this standalone showpiece... planted where you need a focal point all season long.

Pollination Info

Profusion Crabapple Tree Pollination

Profusion Crabapple Trees are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Profusion Crabapple Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Planting & Care

The Profusion Crabapple Tree (Malus “Profusion”) is a spreading, violet-red-flowering tree that typically matures to 15-20 feet tall and accessible to USDA growing zones 4-8. This crabapple is known for its rounded shape, violet-red flowers and red fruit. The oval leaves grow to 3 inches long and will emerge to a reddish-purple when young, then turn bronze green during the growing season and varying turn an amber fall color. Red buds open in spring to violet-red flowers.Followed by the flowers the tree will then produce bright red crabapples that will mature in the fall. Birds are drawn to the fruit. The fruit may be harvested for jellies.

Location: Robison crabapples are best to plant in late fall to early winter or spring depending on your zone and climate. It’s best to choose a location about 2-4 weeks prior to planting so you can prepare your soil for planting.

Choose an area with well draining soil and full or partial sunlight. These trees prefer soil that is slightly acidic. You can use a pH tester to check your soil conditions, the pH should ideally be somewhere between 5.0 and 6.5.

Planting Instructions:
1) Dig a hole around the size of the nursery container the plant comes in. This is ideally 2-3 times the size of the root ball. If you are planting more than one tree, space them about 15 feet apart from one another.
2) Once you remove the plant from its container, loosen the soil around the root ball and gently separate the roots.
3) Place the rootball of your tree in the planting hole. Hold it straight and position so the base of the plant is level with the surface of the soil. Backfill the hole with the soil and planting mix you have prepared. Ensure that the tree is straight before firmly packing down the soil to remove any air pockets.
4) Water and gently tamp down around the planting site to further push out any additional air pockets, then apply a 3 inch mulch layer around the tree to conserve soil moisture and keep back competing growth.

Watering: Profusion Crabapples require at least one inch of water weekly. If you encounter drought or extreme heat during the summer, you will need to increase the amount to two inches. During the winter months or wet season you can reduce the amount of water needed depending on how much rain the tree receives.

Fertilization: It is best to feed these trees in the spring. You can apply a nitrogen based fertilizer like 10-10-10 or 20-5-10 formula. This is especially helpful if your trees appear to have a light, pale green leaves or doesn’t push out much foliage in the spring.

Pruning: Profusion Crabapples respond very well to pruning. It’s best to remove any dead, dying or damaged branches in early winter when the tree is dormant or in the summer after the tree has finished blooming.

Use sharp pruning shears to remove these branches at their point of origin on the stem. It’s also a good to remove any weeds from around the plant and any suckers that come up near the base of the tree. These will compete for nutrients with the tree and cause it to struggle.

Broken Trees

Very good, although required a little patience. We ordered four perfusion crabapple trees and the first two came broken in two in the box from the courier. Upon notification Fast Growing Trees immediately sent out two replacement trees. In the meantime, the second part of the order-the other two trees-was refused at the courier’s facility as they were broken and the box was damaged. So, Fast Growing Trees sent out another shipment with the two remaining trees. All four trees from the original order were broken in half during delivery. But, to our delight, Fast Growing Trees made everything right by fast-shipping out four replacement trees. They are in the ground and growing and look beautiful except we are nursing one of the trees along a little as it lost its leaves somewhere along the line. But, it should do well once it gets established. The whole process took less than three weeks and we think that is a pretty fast response in view of all that had happened. The last two trees that arrived in perfect order were in a cardboard box that a Sherman tank could not destroy if it tried. They made SURE that we were very happy!!!! I would definitely do business with them again and again. The customer service personnel were very courteous and responsive to our needs!

so far so good

very satisfied with this product. my tree has a very straight trunk and the branches are balanced and healthy. we planted it several days ago and all seems well. im just hoping that the red leaves are truly red not deep pink. by the way, your company sent me a tree that was pruned incorrectly and when i sent a picture of it to the rep he immediately replaced it with a new tree at no cost. well done.
