Golden-Green Landscape Perfection, with Great Heat Tolerance

Why Berckman's Gold Arborvitae?

Increasingly popular and rightfully so, Berckman’s Gold Arborvitae is everything you want in an evergreen - with some added flair. Its manageable size, paired with engaging color and texture, ad adds interest to any landscape. Woody gardeners and plant-lovers alike will want to clear a space for this Arborvitae.

Berckman’s Gold Arborvitae is aptly named for its light green-yellow coloration, with tips fading into a gold sheen. When mature, the branches hold a medium to fine texture. The Berckman’s Gold features a neat, oval habit, which suits its profuse cone production. Cones begin in a blue-white color, and ripen to rich mahogany.

This Gold Arborvitae is classified as a semi-dwarf species, making it perfect for smaller landscapes. A hardy grower, your Berckman’s Gold Arborvitae won't be susceptible to browning in the winter. They make an excellent hedge, and as a border plant, they can be trimmed to form a striking, pleasant-looking barrier. It's well-suited for southern heat and humidity, with a moderate growth rate.

Rich in color, cone production, and lush foliage, the Berckman’s Gold Arborvitae is an ideal accent to add to your landscape. It stands out from the more typical evergreen species as a showy border plant.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your Berckman's Gold in well-draining soil and in a spot that receives full sun with a bit of shade (around 6 hours of direct sunlight daily). Place in a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. There's no need to amend the soil, but you can add a thick layer of mulch around the base of the tree for weed prevention.

If you plan to install Berckman’s Gold Arborvitae in rows or groups, plant each specimen at least 3 feet apart.

2. Watering: Make sure your Berckman's Gold Arborvitae receives water weekly while it is establishing. Rain is usually enough to keep it hydrated after that, but you'll need to water it if you experience a period of drought.

3. Pruning and Fertilizing: An incredibly low-maintenance tree, there is no pruning, fertilizing or disease management needed for the Berckman's Gold Arborvitae. You can prune as desired for creating a hedge, but it is not necessary. Similarly, fertilizer isn't required, but you can fertilize yearly in spring with a slow-release fertilizer if desired.
