Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant your shrub in either full sun or partial sun (around 4 to 5 hours of sunlight per day is ideal). This shrub is very resistant to heat, drought, pollution and poor soil conditions, so just ensure you plant in well-drained soil.
Dig a hole large enough to accommodate your shrub's root ball, place your tree, backfill the soil and water the surrounding soil.
If you're planting in a container, select a pot that's about twice the width of your tree's shipped container, use organic soil, and choose a sunny spot for your shrub.
2. Watering: Because of its drought resistance, you only need to water your shrub when you get less than one inch of rain in a week. If you're not sure when to water, simply check the surrounding soil about 2 inches down for dryness.
3. Fertilizing: Feed your tree every spring with a general-purpose fertilizer.
4. Pruning: You can prune to control the size of your tree. Cutting 2 to 3 buds on each branch will allow the tree to produce larger blooms the next season. Since this tree is such a late bloomer, only prune in late fall and winter.

Fast growing trees is a solid company and I like their array of plants, trees and shrubs. My Rise of Sharon plant arrived a little worse for west—yellowing leaves and a little wilted. I planted it the same day it arrived and it hasn’t spring back like I hoped—but still hoping. It’s not easy to plant new things in an August garden! When one of the shrubs I bought last spring died, the company credited my account. I appreciate their customer service very much and can recommend them.

I was surprised and delighted to see my 3-gallon Aphrodite Rose of Sharon Althea Shrub! It was packed so well it had every limb and leaf intact. After it sat out in my Houston summer for 3-4 days, I had to remove some dead blooms. I purchased the root stimulator and potting soil so I am hoping for beautiful blooms soon. It is planted in a container because the ground is pretty wet from our recent rains. (Really!) I will post pictures as the shrub begins to bloom. So far I am thrilled.

I was worried at first because there were a lot of leaves fallen into the box on arrival. But once we planted it, it now is (just a few weeks later) fully leafed out and thriving.
